Seen on operatic, concert and theatrical stages across the United States, tenor Blake Friedman recently made his Dallas Opera debut in the Donizetti and Company concert in addition to covering Florian in Der Ring des Polykrates by Korngold. The tenor whose voice "has a plummy fullness and dusky hue” (The New York Times) “with a buttery top” (New York Classical Review) and “crisp meaningful diction” (The Observor) has performed the roles of Irving Tashman in the New York City premiere of Morning Star by Ricky Ian Gordon (On Site Opera), Conte Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (St. Pete Opera), Nemorino in L’Elisir D’Amore (St. Pete Opera, New Rochelle Opera), Alfredo in La Traviata (Long Island Opera), Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi (Ash Lawn Opera), Pang in Turandot (St. Pete Opera), and Rodolfo in La Boheme (Bronx Opera, Ash Lawn Opera). He can also be heard on the Albany Records recording of Later the Same Evening as Jimmy O’Keefe. Blake also serves as the current resident tenor for American Opera Projects’ Composers and the Voice Symposium, where he premieres new works written specifically for his voice in a monthly workshop.
Blake holds both a Master of Music and Professional Studies Degree from the Manhattan School of Music where he was the recipient of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Richard Rodgers Scholarship and received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Eastman School of Music, where he was the recipient of a Howard Hanson Scholarship. He is singing the role of St. Francis.
