Canterbury Choral Society is pleased to announce its final performance of the 2018-19 concert series, on FRIDAY, May 17 at 7:00 pm, with soloist Janinah Burnett, featuring Rollo Dilworth’s Bound for Glory, selections from Duke Ellington’s Second Sacred Concert, first performed at St. John the Divine in 1968, and Full Freedom by Nicholas White, a piece for multiple choirs, and instrumentalists, written for the annual choral tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Listen to our ad here.
This rare evening performance on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 7pm -- a Gospel Festival featuring Rollo Dilworth’s Bound for Glory accompanied by Steven Graff on the piano with a jazz ensemble. This work was commissioned by Canterbury and first performed at Carnegie Hall on November 18, 2017. The concert will also feature selections from Duke Ellington’s Second Sacred Concert 1968, and Full Freedom by Nicholas White. Joining Canterbury will be The New Amsterdam Boys and Girls, The Choristers of Church of the Heavenly Rest, and the St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s Upper Division Choirs.
Canterbury Choral Society has been rehearsing and performing at Church of the Heavenly Rest since its founding in 1952. It became an independent not-for-profit arts association in 1988, and is a 501(c)(3) choral group dedicated to performing great choral music with full orchestra accompaniment.
